Component-X allows the integration of diverse systems. Components
are used to make new, larger components. This is a "recursive"
component architecture as opposed to a "flat" architecture
(such as EJB), where all components must be created from code. There
is a closer tie between design and implementation. Applications are
dynamically executable. The architecture is flexible, maintainable,
and technology independent.
Component-X is based on the OMG EDOC standard
for enterprise modeling and implements the Component Collaboration Architecture
defined in EDOC. With EDOC you use a standard model to support a variety
of technologies such as WSDL, ebXML and JMS.
